"Ye olde family that slays thee together stays together"

Films: Grendel (2007)

Alias: Grendel, Grendel's Mother

Type: Mystical

Location: Cave/Forest/Civilized Area

Height/Weight: Twice that of average humans.

Affiliation: Evil

Summary: You all know the classic tale of Beowulf, right? The famed monster slayer who gave us one of the most renowned epic poems? Well, he's back in film again. And his foes remain the same.

History: As one might guess in a Beowulf story, the monstrous titan known as Grendel is out an about slaughtering anyone who either disturbs him or meets him when he's hungry. He and his mother are the terrors of the Danes, offered sacrifices so that they don't cause too much trouble. But fear not, because Beowulf just rolled in to town to save our lives! The fight is on!

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: Grendel is killed when he’s set on fire, stabbed in the heart, and loses his right arm. His mother follows suite when she's decapitated. Of course, Beowulf is responsible for all of these deaths.

Powers/Abilities: None.

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 3-Grendel and his mother do boast some intimidating designs, with Grendel looking like a savage wildman with tendrils for some reason and his mother looking like a straight bat out of Hell. But sadly, the low budget necessitated bad CGI to make all move rather unnaturally, and just look like crap.

Trivia: -There actually was a story known as "Grendel", which was basically the original poem from the titular monster's perspective. It's...actually quite sad, to say the least.

-This film was most likely meant to capitalize on "Beowulf", a motion-capture animated film released in the same year, directed by Robert Zemeckis, and featuring not only a MUCH more grotesque interpretation of Grendel, but also his mom being a barely-seen fish woman who disguises as a demonic Angelina Jolie.
